Working In Layers (Submission for 2017 Art-A-Whirl)

I have been working on a series of painting that focus on transparency and opacity. 

The bottom layer is painted with watercolor and markers, where the top layer (drawn on Vellum) is pen and ink.

Here is and example of the paintings when the top layer is lifted. 

 By using Vellum to create the fog effect, it allows me to add details that I would not be able to add if I were just working with transparent ink. And most viewers, want to reach out and touch the artwork.

"Out of the woods" 5"x7" in. 

This style also gives the artwork a new depth that makes you feel like you are looking into something not just at something.

Each of the works of art are framed in hand made recycled wood frames, that were removed from a horse pasture fence.

Some lessons in figure drawing

I have always wanted to improve my figure drawing skills. So I took the opportunity to really practice trying to figure every day. Here are some of my improving works of art, be it ever so slowly.

More geometric wood art

I have been really enjoying the natural calm of painting geometric landscapes. The small details and precise lines are very hypnotic to work on. 

New art on wood

I have been working on a new wood collection. Going back to my roots a bit, if you will. I still have a natural focus but lately I have combined it with geometric structure.
